“Book Covers by Around 100 People” Exhibition
An exhibition and sales event featuring imagined bookstores and their original book covers, conceptualized by a diverse range of creators.
The project “Book Covers by Around XX People” has traditionally featured mostly Japanese artists—
but this time, many Taiwanese creators have also joined the lineup.
Returning to RETRO印刷JAM Taiwan, “Book Covers by Around 100 People” showcases both believable and wildly imaginative bookstores through these freely envisioned book covers—each one unique, expressive, and full of character.
Printed using RETRO印刷JAM’s signature Risograph technique, known for its charming misalignments and uneven ink textures,
the printing process itself is a highlight worth appreciating.

About Book Covers in Japan:
The tradition of wrapping books in covers reportedly began in the Taisho era.
Originally used for in-store branding and to help clerks distinguish whether books had been paid for,
it later evolved into a cultural norm—especially as a way to protect readers’ privacy and conceal the contents of what they’re reading.
This has become a uniquely Japanese practice.
