The Massive Migration is a series of works, including sculptures and paintings, that began in 2016. Xiao Longhua collects used tools, household items, musical instruments, and other objects—these marked “objects of the present moment” are distanced from their origins as industrial products. Xiao Longhua focuses on the chaotic state revealed when these objects are stripped of their original functions, and how they are reconstructed into forms that “resemble nothing.” These objects, detached from both time and culture, appear to exist in both the past and the future, as though they are entirely new species.
