Workshop Instructor

I’m BQ, the person behind Sloppy Q. My background is in architecture, where I studied and worked for over ten years. While the field is creative, its rigid structures, budgets, specifications and rules often leaves little room for painting trees pink.

Sloppy Q began as a quiet rebellion against that rigidity. Despite being very type-A and neat by nature, I created Sloppy Q as an alter ego to give myself permission to make a mess, experiment, and create without measuring outcomes. Returning to painting during a period of burnout, I realized how afraid I had become of mistakes—so I leaned into them instead.

Today, Sloppy Q is both a personal art therapy practice and something I share with others. I love creating alongside friends and strangers, collectively zoning out, exchanging creative energy, and reminding ourselves not to take things too seriously.

Slopfest grows from this practice—less about learning art, more about slowing down, playing, and reconnecting with yourself in a shared, pressure-free space.
