Polymer Art Space 2013-2018
a publication documenting the five-year journey of Polymer Art Space.
Edited and curated by the collective Cacao, the book traces how a group of artists transformed an abandoned textile factory
in Beitou, Taipei, into Taiwan’s first artist-run studio complex and experimental art hub.
From 2013 to 2018, the space fostered collaboration through open studios, interdisciplinary exhibitions, and shared creation.
As the lease ended in late 2018, a farewell event titled “The Lustful Stage・A Space Once Full” marked the space’s closure with
performances and readings.
This book not only records the site's spatial transformation and operational model, but also includes artist cards for 35 contributors.
It serves as both an archival record and a tribute to the creative energy and collective spirit that shaped Polymer over five vital years.
Polymer Art Space
founded in 2012 in Beitou, Taipei, repurposing a former textile factory into Taiwan’s first artist-run, non-profit art complex.
Spanning over 600 ping (approx. 2,000 m²) with nearly 20 studio units, it gathers creators from visual art, performance, literature, and music.
Through open studios, experimental showcases, and residency programs, Polymer fosters collaboration and dialogue.
Emphasizing creative process over final output, it offers a dynamic space where art continuously unfolds—
serving as a key platform for cross-disciplinary experimentation and international exchange in Taiwan.
