In Taiwan’s festive parades, participants can see gods, mythic heroes, opera characters, ancient figures, showed at the same time. “When viewers open my book and say, ‘Ah, that’s our Prince!’ or ‘Which deity is this one?’—that’s when I feel my artwork comes alive, walking among the people again, returning to the world where these painted beings truly belong.”

Scenes of celebration and bustling festivals are recurring motifs in Mr. Toad’s artworks. The Grand Parade is a vivid diary of mythic festivities—capturing the rhythm, color, and exuberance of Taiwan’s religious celebrations.

“I love painting the divine generals. They wear dazzling embroidered robes in vibrant hues, helmets inlaid with glittering rhinestones, and long swinging arms. The golden-threaded dragons, phoenixes, and lions on their robes shimmer and dance with every movement. As they weave through the parade, they’re impossibly majestic—simply magnificent.”
