This workshop focuses on creating motorized instruments and guiding participants in spontaneous, collaborative performances—let’s shake our ears together with Earsquake! Participants will unlock the creative potential of motors, experiment with improvisational playing, and ultimately join the artists for on-the-spot performances of all shapes and sizes.
DuctTape Collective is a mechanical art duo formed by Nai-Syuan Ye (TW, https://naisyuanye.com/
) and Polina Slavova (BG, https://polinaslavova.com/
). Their collaboration explores methods for generating machines, focusing on character and scenario building to stimulate people’s emotions. They believe technology should be accessible to a wider audience, which they achieve through humour, storytelling, and interactivity. The name DuctTape refers to the simple method of using tape to fix issues in physical spaces, reflecting the vernacular nature of their working methods and a light-hearted approach to the human-machine relationship.
Heretical Objects is a sound experimentation duo composed of Italian musician Matteo Gherardi Vignolo (https://www.instagram.com/matteo_g_v/
) and Chinese artist Yuxin Hu 栩 (https://yuxinhu.com/
). The duo explores the sonic potential of different materials and the shifting relationships between humans and objects. They use unconventional methods to invoke objects’ multistability, freeing the objects they experiment with from their default functions and revealing new possibilities.
(Participation in the workshop requires the purchase of a TPABF ticket.)
