Created by the five award-winning artists of 2022, the creations go beyond traditional creativity and explore
snack packages, graphic collage, textiles, soft sculpture, tattoos, etc.
They solved the problem of floating images in daily life, carried out creative experimental spirit and had roots in Taiwanese labor.
These works were highly praised by our five judges and reflect the creative energy of the fair.
Our goal is to achieve cross-disciplinary inspiration through this series of works.
The #TPABFaward was launched in 2022 to spotlight the vibrant and diverse world of indie creators, celebrating the unexpected sparks that arise from the experimental spirit of print and publishing.
Each year, five judges from different creative fields are invited to select a TPABF Award winner from among the domestic exhibitors at the Taipei Art Book Fair (草率季). In addition to a custom-designed trophy, the five winning teams are brought together the following year for a creative exchange, culminating in a collaborative publication — the #TPABF Award Collection, published with the support of TPABF.
The goal is to encourage and promote innovation and bold experimentation in local publishing practices.
The 2022 jury included:
Wei-Lun Huang (TPABF Curator), Hao-Che Liao (Spatial Designer), Kai-En Chen (Visual Designer), Chung-Yi Yeh (Graphic Designer), Leslie Sun (Editor-in-Chief, Vogue Taiwan)

" 假裝 ASmile Can Hide the Truth "
Common junk foods such as snack bags and potato chips often feature smiles and cute design elements
to create an image emphasizes friendliness, making consumers willing to buy and reducing their guilt.
By burning junk food packaging, the artist wants to remind that “”smile conceals the truth””
about the harm junk food does to the body and the how it pollutes the environment.
CULTU-RE EXPERIMENT

" PLAY HARD(graphic diary by otherworm)"【Death, Nourishment, Rebirth】
The first half of 2023, I began a visual diary using materials extracted from my past non-commercial works.
These pieces carry countless nights of self-argumentation, but now, most of their original meanings have been stripped away, returning to an undefined open state.
I hope to share this zine with you, the one reading these words.
Feel free to explore, disrupt, and create new forms together in the playground of images – PLAY HARD.
otherworm
A visual design studio that organizes teams based on projects, taking on various design commissions. The creator of the “PLAY HARD” zine is Chen Ping-Chen, the founder of otherworm, who enjoys playing games, discussing abstract matters. Currently he recommends the game “Detroit: Become Human” as the top pick.

" 撒哈拉圖鑑 SAHARA catalogue "
I create pieces from resin of different shapes and colors and named them Sahara.
I love casually arranging and placing the positions of the Sahara. Each arrangement has its unique charm,
much like the sands of the Sahara changing every second.
I aim to break them down into a guidebook style, cut into individual pieces, allowing readers to pair them up in their own ways.

" Gaze Into My Naked Body "
Collected artist UngCha’s creations from 2020 to 2023, including sculptures, lighting installations, photography, and photographic paintings.
In addition, the book also contains excerpts from the artist’s autobiography.
UngCha’s works often feature dark humor and a seemingly mischievous artistic expression style,
reflecting his challenge to traditional definitions of gender and social identity, as well as his unique philosophical thoughts and worldview.
UngCha

with a keen perspective of psychology and sociology to transform various traumatic experiences under the patriarchal framework.
He tried to deconstruct and reinterpret gender and roles under the traditional social structure.
His work “Prostheses”was included in the 2021 European independent art magazine “King Kong Garçon: issue 6 Obsession”

and combined them to build a world from his perspective.
